THUNDER BAY - A group of Loon Lake camp owners wants Nextbridge Infrastructure to amend its plan to build a new power transmission line along the lake's North shore and they're asking Shuniah Township to help do something about it.

The proposed East-West Tie Line is currently slated to run parallel to an existing transmission line.

The campers want the company to build the new line about two-kilometres north of the proposed route, citing environmental and social concerns with twin lines near the Loon Lake watershed.

The group staged a small rally outside of the Shuniah Municipal Office this afternoon. Afterward, East Loon Lake Campers' Association President Zoie Yurik gave a deputation to town council suggesting Shuniah follow in the footsteps of a neighbouring community.

Some on council seemed to support the campers' position. Shuniah Councillors will vote on the matter at their next meeting in two weeks' time.
