THUNDER BAY - A Canadian couple is travelling across the country to spread awareness about an injustice happening on the other side of the world.

Falun Gong is an ancient spiritual practice that is illegal in China.

Some people claim the Chinese government is imprisoning and torturing its practitioners, and even harvesting them for human organs.

Hongyan Lu's quest to free her mother is one she hopes will have a happier ending.

Lu and her husband made a quick stop in Thunder Bay on their journey from Edmonton to Ottawa Thursday.

Lu's mother is a Falun Gong practitioner who was arrested with several others on June 3rd in China.

Lu claims her mother has been tortured and now she fears her mother's organs will be harvested in the multi-billion dollar organ transplant business in China.

Lu said it is common for those practicing this peaceful spiritual art to be murdered for their organs because they lead healthy lifestyles.

Although many Canadians may feel removed from this issue, the couple want to spread awareness which could hopefully result in enough support to free Lu's mom.

Lu added that those who wish to show their support and free Lu's mother should write a letter to their MP, or visit the website to sign a petition.
