LETTER: Workers and community deserve better from Bombardier

Unifor workers and the community certainly deserve a whole lot better. Labour laws need to be changed and new labour laws passed to protect the unions, their members and our communities.

Unifor workers and the community certainly deserve a whole lot better.

Labour laws need to be changed and new labour laws passed to protect the unions, their members and our communities.

Bombardier's greatest asset of all is its valuable skilled and dedicated workers. Bombardier should do the proper thing by rewarding and offering a quarterly or bi-annual bonus to all its workers from its billions in ridiculous high profits.

Instead the company chooses only to take away what was previously negotiated and earned in good faith from many past contract negotiations.

Bombardier should be offering real world wage increases of no less than a 3/3/3 per cent plus a COLA assurance to its workers plus a generous signing bonus for a new three-year contract. But instead it chooses to offer only an insulting 0/10/10-cent offer for the general membership and 0/20//20-cents for skilled trades.

Remember, Bombardier's profits are in the billions.

Besides taxes, what exactly does Bombardier contribute to the community of Thunderless Bay anyway?

No encouraging morale for workers and families, no company picnics or barbecues, no family days, no kids days, no social events for the workers or children, no sports days, no contributions to minor sports, etcetera.

Bombardier does not sound like a very good corporate citizen or a happy and cheerful place to work for any length of time.

Bombardier should be treating its workers like family and friends, not like disposable property.

I say shame on greedy Bombardier.

M. Locke,
Thunder Bay
