To the editor:

If the city is considering the many different choices for the $23-million Renew Thunder Bay fund, here are some options.

1. How about fixing Hillcrest Park stonework.

2. The big boat pier, Phase 5 on the waterfront, that should have been stage one, not the skateboard park , that should have been built at Chapples Park with a Winter Cover. The waterfront was for boating and tourism, the first developed plan got it right.

3. At least one new ride for Chippewa Park. Why did they not buy some rides with the millions they last spent?

4. A new bridge to Chipewa Park, the Reserve and Mount McKay.

5. Re-open a satellite hospital ? Should have kept two, one major one minor.|

6. Trade in the two lighted Morse code hockey sticks for one old-fasioned lighthouse, with an elevator and a $1 fee to enter.

7. Get rid of the bike lanes on busy streets, thats a great idea for Toronto, but in Thunder Bay? We need beautiful walking/bike lanes for safety.

8. Get rid of some of the bottlenecks on Algoma Street. Causes too many problems for the buses.

9. We need family doctors.  Hire some, I know Cuba has an excess.

10. Build a new jail, one that addresses that some in jail have medical problems.

11. Put in some cosmetic upgrades at Fort William Gardens. Marble tops in the washrooms, etc. Should not cost much. Buy a super big screen video board or composite. Check with the staff at the Power Centre.

12. I had suggested the convention hall component in the 1996 or 1998 municipal election, based on observations from other conventions I have attended. This has to be built in conjunction with other exhibit centers, hotels, and the airlines. I believe all you really need is big boxes. You need a space to expand as the conventions grow, because unlike a Hockey Game where most people go home, at a national convention, most people need a hotel.

13.  Tax rebates.

I am sure there are others who have other options as well, if only city council would only consider them.
