The Thunder Bay Sportop midget AA Queens began the under-19 Tier 1 Showcase event in Exeter, N.H., on Friday by skating to a 1-1 draw with the North Andover Islanders of Massachusetts.
After the Islanders opened the scoring in the first period, Thunder Bay’s Paige Sullivan notched the equalizer with six minutes remaining to salvage the tie.
Emilie Varrin had the lone assist on the play.
The Queens held a large edge in the shots on goal department, out shooting North Andover 36-11 overall with Bailey Chenier playing in net for Thunder Bay.
The Queens took on the Northern Cyclones later Friday.
Saturday sees them meet the Dallas Stars U-19 Elite at 11:20 a.m. followed by a 6 p.m. match-up against the Ontario Hockey Academy Stallions from Cornwall, Ont.
Thunder Bay concludes play Sunday morning at 8 a.m. when they face-off against the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite.
