Thunder Bay may still have representation at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts after all.

Karlee Jones is curling lead for skip Kelly Backman’s rink, which on Saturday advanced to the Nova Scotia Scotties semifinal, downing Sarah Murphy 9-6 in a tiebreaker.

The Backman squad will take on Mary-Anne Aresenault on Sunday morning for the right to play Theresa Breen’s rink in the final, scheduled for Sunday afternoon at the Dartmouth Curling Club.

Backman finished round-robin play at 4-3.

Jones, the daughter of well-known local golfer Trevor Jones, is originally from Thunder Bay. She’s attending school in Halifax.

Meanwile, in Penetanguishene, Ont., Thunder Bay's Nicole Westlund's team stayed alive, dowing Jacqueline Harrision 9-3 in the 3-4 Page Playoff at the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Westlund, a student at the University of Western Ontario, plays lead on Clancy Grandy's squad. They'll face former champion Sherry Middaugh in Sunday's semifinal, the winner taking on Julie Hastings in the championship game.
