THUNDER BAY -- Andy Prystanski has been playing hockey for the past seven years.

Andy, 13, is getting a boost to continue his on-ice activities after being named the recipient of the Dan Rusnak Memorial Family Bursary.

“It’s truly an honour,” he said following a brief ceremony in the middle of the Thunder Bay Minor Hockey Association’s all-star game festivities at the Fort William Gardens on Saturday.

“I’m sure there were lots of kids that were eligible for this award and it is an honour I am the recipient.

The bursary was established three years ago to honour Dan Rusnak, a former standout with the Port Arthur North Stars, on his 80th birthday. It was set up as a 10-year commitment to award $1,000 each year.

The award acknowledges the cost of playing organized hockey has risen substantially since he played and helps ensure today’s players aren’t held back by money. It recognizes a player who shows both skill and determination to excel at the sport.
