Northern Hawks still in Keystone Cup hunt

COLD LAKE, Alta. -- Matthew Ray, Taylor Santorelli and Alex Vaillant scored for Thunder Bay in their triumph over Cold Lake.

Brett Bishop, Santorelli and Ryan Delvecchio had the Northern Hawks goals in the loss. The Quakers opened up a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes, but needed Rhett Kehoe’s second-period score to secure the victory.

The Hawks, who tied the Selkirk Fishermen 3-3 on Thursday, sit at 1-1-1 at the Western Canadian Junior B championship.

Thunder Bay, in fourth place at the six-team tournament, takes on B.C.’s Campbell River Storm and the North Edmonton Red Wings on Saturday in their round-robin finales.

The top two teams advance to Sunday’s final, the third- and fourth-place teams playing for bronze earlier in the day.
