DeGrazia tops field in Strathcona Invitational qualifying

Evan DeGrazia led all qualifiers Saturday at the Strathcona Invitational. DeGrazia fired a one-under 71 in the qualifying round to earn the top seed at the city’s most prestigious golf tournament, the second of three majors of the summer.

Defending champion Joe Scharf and Brett Shewchuck tied for second, one back at 72.

Jordan Potter and former champion Robert Cumming finished at one-over 73 to round out the top five.

The tournmanent moves into stroke play on Sunday, with DeGrazia lined up against Casey Niemi. Scharf will take on Ryan Pietela.
Others advancing to the championship round include Dave Joubert, Steve Gibson, John Shaw, Randy Robinson, Damon Crack, Trent Childs, Sam Orr, Connor Carr and Mark Willianen.

In the senior division, top seed Randy Fossum fell to Rick Danielewski. Five-time Strathcona Invitational champion Trevor Jones, Dan Kukko and Ryan Untinen also picked up quarterfinal wins.

In the super senior division, Tony Stokaluk, another former champion, knocked off Richard Wojtowicz, Glen Fossum downed Lionel Laprade, Brian Mallon eliminated Guy Wolframe and Kim Hutch beat Rick Bevilacqua.
