North Stars comeback falls short after allowing seven first-period goals

The Thunder Bay North Stars’ comeback fell a goal short on Friday night. Down 7-2 in the opening period to the host English River Miners, the Stars fought back valiantly, but couldn’t net the equalizer and dropped an 8-7 decision.

Down 7-2 in the opening period to the host English River Miners, the Stars fought back valiantly, but couldn’t net the equalizer and dropped an 8-7 decision.

Ryker Moreau posted two goals and added three assists for the Miners, who downed the North Stars 10-7 a night earlier.

Alex Maticic scored twice for the victors, while captain Brandon Schaber had thee helpers.

Brad Arabia and Joe Newhouse netted a pair of goals apiece for Thunder Bay, with singles going to Jared Fanti, Aaron Balcolmbe and Nicholas Nigro.

Korlan Vader stopped 30 of 37 shots directed his way for the win. Devin Russell and Tyler Lesschaeve, who started in nets for Thunder Bay, allowed four goals each. Lesschaeve was chased just shy of the nine-minute mark of the contest.

Thunder Bay and English River will tangle again in Ear Falls on Saturday. The two teams will meet again on Friday and Saturday at Fort William Gardens.
