With the return of last season’s Superior International Junior Hockey League coach of the year Jeremy Adduono behind the bench, the fortunes of the Thunder Bay North Stars were shining Saturday as they defeated the Minnesota Iron Rangers 4-1 at the Fort William Gardens.

The motivated North Stars came out quickly grabbing a 2-0 lead before the contest was 10 minutes old on markers by Alex Goettlicher and Brad Thrower.

Minnesota got on the board via the power play midway through the contest as Jacob Shannon scored on a power play.

Thunder Bay got that one back four minutes later on a Nicholas Nigro effort to put the hosts back up by two.

Nigro then added one more in the third to round out the scoring.

Brendan Gillis chipped in with two assists for the home side.

Riley Corbin was solid making 34 saves to pick up the win for the North Stars.

Bryce Kamenick faced 30 attempts in defeat for the Iron Rangers.
