THUNDER BAY -- The annual Run for Women may not be dead just yet.
A group of women have taken on the challenge of re-invigorating the popular run, to keep it going.
Last week, the long-time organizers of the run announced the event would be ending, saying after 35 years it has lost momentum.
Now a group of local women and volunteers have formed a committee to put together "The Unofficial 36th Annual Run for Women" next month.
This year, the event will not be a fundraiser, and registration is not necessary, due to the rush of getting everything ready in less than two weeks.
The new organizers say this run has played a vital role in bringing women together since 1980 and it must go on in some form or another.
The run will take place on Saturday, May 7 at Boulevard Lake.
Run for Women committee member Tessa Murray says the committee is working on new ways to keep the momentum going for next year.
