Border Cats snag catcher drafted to Blue Jays

THUNDER BAY – A Toronto Blue Jays 2014 draft pick is among three catchers Thunder Bay Border Cats management is adding to the lineup in the final week before opening day.. 

Michael Papierski is entering his second season in the Northwoods League. The 6-foot-three catcher from Illinois put up a .233 batting average picking up 14 runs and 15 RBIs. The team praised Papierski's defence in a media release issued Monday, citing his .996 fielding percentage with 231 putouts for the season with the Louisiana State University Tigers.

Papierski, taken in the 14th round of the 2014 draft by the Blue Jays, played for the Eau Claire Express last summer, hitting three doubles and driving in seven in 23 outings. 

Robert Boselli is a six-foot-two sophomore from Ventnor City, N.J. The Mercer County catcher has 33 hits on 123 at bats and 37 RBI. Boselli also attained a .976 fielding percentage while playing in both the first and third base positions. 

Jonny Juarez IV from Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. rounds out the Cats' 2016 catching squad. The sophomore has notched 39 hits on 105 at bats with four home runs and 23 RBIs. Juarez IV is also putting up a .982 fielding percentage.
