THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League has announced that Thunder Bay North Stars captain Kenny Turner has committed to attend the University of Waterloo and play for the Warriors men’s hockey program in the OUA this fall.

The 21-year-old Thunder Bay native spent three seasons at forward with the North Stars skating in 149 games amassing 87 points on 27 goals and 60 assists.

His 10 tallies, 32 helpers and 42 points in 2015-16 were all single-season career bests.

Turner’s on-ice efforts earned him the SIJHL’s most improved player award this past season.

"On behalf of the organization, we couldn't be happier for Kenny,” stated North Stars head coach Jeremy Adduono.

“With the odds always against him, he's excelled at every level so far,” added Adduono.

“He has tremendous speed and very good hockey sense. More importantly, he has all the intangibles; he cares, has the right attitude, and plays the game with passion. He was a pleasure to coach and he'll be a great addition to the Waterloo program," summarized the North Stars bench boss.

Warriors head coach Brian Bourque is also pleased to have acquired his new recruit.

He's a hardworking, committed guy," offered Bourque on the announcement of Turner’s commitment.

"He gives everything he has in every situation, and he picks up systems quickly," added the Waterloo coach.

Turner will be studying Kinesiology at Waterloo.
