PETERBOROUGH -- Thunder Bay's Carter George etched his name into the Ontario Hockey League record book on Thursday night.
The 18-year-old became the 11th goaltender in league history to be credited with a goal as the Owen Sound Attack netminder fired the puck into an empty net in his team's 4-1 road win over the Peterborough Petes.
After making a save on Petes forward Jonathan Melee with around 80 seconds to go in regulation, George slid across the crease and had enough time to fire a shot at the other end of the rink.
Once the puck found the back of the net, George was mobbed by his teammates and led the flyby past the Attack bench.
The Los Angeles Kings prospect also made 28 saves in the triumph.
Prior to George's goal, the last goalie to find the light the lamp was Anson Thornton of the Barrie Colts on April 6, 2023.
Tyler Parsons of the London Knights was the last netminder to be credited with a goal in the regular season on Oct. 9, 2015, though that happened when he was the last opposing player to touch the puck before the Sudbury Wolves put in their own net.
The last goaltender to match George's feat of firing the puck into the net from the other end of the rink was Ron Vogel of the Windsor Spitfires on Jan. 9, 1998.
