Invites applications for the position of
Awareness Education Worker (Full-Time Contract Until March 31, 2027)
Reporting to the Community Services Supervisor, and the Executive Directors the Awareness Education Worker will develop, implement, and facilitate a series of workshops, training sessions and resources that are trauma informed and provide support to the community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Have a good understanding of the effects of violence against women and children.
• Have a good knowledge and understanding of the organization’s purpose, goals, and objectives.
• Work from a strong analysis of violence against women and children and apply the analysis to practice.
• Develop, schedule, and deliver workshops, training sessions and resources.
• Collaborate with local school boards and deliver age-appropriate programming to students from Grade 5 to Grade 12.
• In partnership with community organizations, deliver training for men that focuses on healthy relationships, identifying characteristics and behaviors associated with gender-based violence and strategies to change behaviors and attitudes.
• Facilitate community groups with a mandate to support and advocate for survivors of gender-based violence.
• Work collaboratively from a culturally sensitive approach to ensure people receive culturally appropriate programs to better understand gender-based violence.
• Train professionals to assess, identify risk factors and have trauma-informed conversations to support women with receiving support when they need it.
• Follow organizations policies and procedures.
• Must be able to work independently.
• Provide comprehensive assistance, support, crisis intervention, advocacy, information, education, and referrals as appropriate.
• Be dynamic and capable of delivering information in an engaging manner while respecting sensitivity of material.
WORK SCHEDULE:
• 37.5 hours per week
• Monday to Friday 8:30AM to 5:00PM with one unpaid hour for lunch, with flexibility to accommodate evening groups.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Education: Diploma or degree in Social Services/Women’s issues, or related field.
• Skills:
o Superior knowledge, understanding and analysis of feminist perspective particularly around causes and effects of violence against women and children and equality issues.
o Have a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the organization’s purpose, goals, and objectives.
o Must model a high ethical standard with clear boundaries.
o Good interpersonal skills in dealing with sensitive issues, the public, and other agencies.
o Good leadership skills with conflict resolution skills.
o Ability to deal calmly and diligently with crisis and emergency situations.
o Experience in anti-violence/anti-oppression work.
o Proficiency in written and spoken language as well as digital communication.
o Knows, understands, encompasses, and promotes diversity.
o A willingness to continue educational and professional development.
o Strong knowledge of community services.
o Must have excellent organizational and time management skills.
o Proficient in Apple Products, Adobe and M365 including Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

COMPENSATION:
• Starting Wage: $24.61 – $26.67
