We are looking for a part-time (22.5 hours per week) Therapy Assistant to support children and their families and is located out of THRIVE’s Wawa location. Under the direction of regulated health care professionals, Therapy Assistants (TA) implement a wide variety of rehabilitation programming such as but not limited to; support with behaviour interventions, activities of daily living, functional cognitive activities, community re-integration, physiotherapy-related goals and occupational therapy programming. The TA may travel within the region and be required to work in a variety of environments (e.g.: center-based, school, home, day care) depending on the child/family’s needs. This position works throughout the school year (September through June) and is off for the summer (July and August).
Core Responsibilities
• Assist in implementing individualized treatment plans as directed by the Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist.
• Provide direct client care, including therapeutic exercises, activities of daily living training, and adaptive equipment instruction.
• Monitor client progress and report any changes to the supervising Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist.
• Educate clients and their families about treatment plans and home exercise programs.
• Maintain accurate documentation of client progress and treatment outcomes.
• Ensure a safe and clean therapy environment by adhering to health and safety protocols.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to optimize client care.
What we need from you:
• Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapy Rehabilitation Assistant diploma – or, kinesiology degree, or related human services diploma or 2 years of on-the-job-training in supporting occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech-language therapy or a related area, or international physiotherapy or occupational therapy degree (graduating students welcome)
• Related work experience is an asset
• Experience working with infants and children and their families with established development and/or physical disabilities
• Ability to adapt treatment approaches based on individual client and family needs.
• Strong organization skills and attention to detail are required
• Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety, with a willingness to contribute and lead in the culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events for clients and their families/caregivers, colleagues, other community members and yourself
• Demonstrates professionalism in dealing with highly confidential information and situations
• Preference will be given to bilingual (French/English) candidates
• First Aid and C.P.R. Certification is required
• Satisfactory criminal background check and vulnerable sector screen (CPIC) is required
• Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required
• Access to a reliable vehicle as travel is required throughout the district
