PURPOSE:
As an Ability and Attendance consultant at Sault Area Hospital you will be providing case management support to leaders and employees in an assigned client group and proactively engaging with bargaining agents along the full continuum of any absence, including the following:

DUTIES:
1. Adjudicate absences by engaging with the absent employee and their leader, requesting required documentation as necessary, reviewing submitted documentation for completeness, determining whether the employee absence should be approved and exploring whether the employee can stay at work through the illness/injury or alternatively how soon they can return to work
2. Support and coordinate the process to assist employees to stay at work while managing an illness or injury whenever possible
3. Support and coordinate the return to work process, focusing on early intervention and ensuring successful and safe integration back into the work environment as soon as reasonably possible
4. Support and coordinate the escalation process when insufficient medical documentation is provided
5. Engage the Occupational Health Nurse in supporting the health and wellness of employees, including intervention as required and support for stay at work or return to work
6. Support and coordinate any required reporting to WSIB and the effective management of any healthcare or lost time incident including supporting leaders and employees in root cause analysis and how to prevent future incidents, ensuring an expedient offer of safe and suitable work as required and supporting safe and successful return to work where required
7. Collaborate with employees and benefits provider to support long term disability process and return to work
8. Monitor statistics and trends for client group including sick days per FTE, absence trends of employees, healthcare and lost time and other relevant data and collaborate with leaders to support improvement strategies as required
9. Provide advice and support to assigned client group as required
10. Support the Absence Management and Attendance Promotion strategy.
11. Coordinate and conduct regular reviews of employees with ongoing attendance concerns to ensure appropriate support for leaders and employees, ensure appropriate escalation and intervention when required
12. Escalate difficult cases and participate in legal reviews as required
13. Support wellness initiatives and programming, including the following:
• Participate in and actively support the corporate Wellness Committee
• Use data and trends from absences and other information sources to proactively recommend and participate in the creation and delivery of programming to support employee wellness
• Focus on the mental health of employees through determining supports available through our providers and community, collaborating internally to ensure knowledge and awareness of available supports and supporting the development of initiatives and programming to support mental health
• Collaborate with peers in Human Resources to develop and deliver effective programming to support the health and wellness of employees
14. Gather data, complete analysis and provide recommendations to HR leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s degree, Community College Diploma or equivalent experience
2. Certificate in Disability Management would be considered an asset

EXPERIENCE:

1. Minimum of 5 years of experience in Disability Case Management, including experience working in a unionized work environment.

2. Customer service, interpersonal and telephone skills.
3. Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment.
4. Ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team.
5. Ability to organize time effectively to perform the duties of the position.
6. Ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner.
7. Ability to read, write and communicate to perform the duties of the position.
8. Knowledge and understanding of the WSIB Act/policies and procedures, , the Ontario Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
9. Knowledge and understanding of The Ontario Human Rights Code, and the Duty to Accommodate.
10. Ability to interpret collective agreement language.
11. Knowledge of HOOPP Disability Pension.
12. Problem-solving, organizational and time management skills.
13. Ability to resolve conflicts and anticipate obstacles / next steps.
14. Strong time management skills and proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
15. Experience conducting business interviews and leading client presentations, workshops and meetings.
16. Communication skills including large group facilitation experience.
17. Demonstrated behaviour consistent with the hospital’s Standards of Performance and iCcare values.
