We are currently hiring for our Canada Summer Job Grant Positions. We have a 9 weeks contract position for 37.5 hours per week.

The Recreational Support Worker is responsible for providing one-on-one support to campers, ages 5 to 18 who have additional diverse or developmental needs, during their time at camp to help them successfully integrate into the camp program. Recreational Support Worker are caring, enthusiastic, and patient. They will use strategies to ensure that their camper experiences success in the camp program. The camps can include YMCA or other local summer programming for children and youth. They will work alongside the respective programming staff to provide a safe and high-quality camp experience.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support campers with behavioral, physical or developmental needs
Assist with delivery of daily programs (which includes group games, crafts, swimming, outside time, etc.) and adapt the activities to meet the needs of all campers in the group
Supervise, engage and participate with the program participants in group activities
Communicate with all staff, Site Leads and Supervisors/Managers
Help to support the campers and their families to ensure safety and engagement for all campers
Welcome all children to programs
Professional represent THRIVE by being a positive role model, emphasizing behaviors such as trust, respect, reliability, honesty, fairness, kindness and privacy.
Build relationships with campers and families, and respective programming staff
Greet caregivers at morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up
Assist in developing program inclusion and modification strategies to create a successful camping experience for all. Act as a resource for other day camp staff regarding inclusive programming.
Make quick decisions to ensure maximum camper integration and safety.
Be a role model for safety and take responsibility for the supervision and security of all campers in your care.
Respond to first aid and emergency situations as required, continually checking for potential health and safety hazards or concerns.
Anticipate potential challenges and barriers, and support in de-escalating and resolving.

Skills Preferred:
Experience working with children/youth who experience an intellectual disability and/or Autism an asset.
Experience working with children and youth in a recreational setting
Facilitates appropriate and timely solutions to conflict.
The ability to work effectively with others to achieve optimal collective results.
Aptitude to work independently and problem solve.
Ability to relate to participants in a professional and caring manner.
Demonstrates responsible behaviour at all times and maintains high ethical standards.
Understands and commits to promoting equal opportunity and support for all children regardless of ability.
Willing to work flexible hours according to the varying requirements of the summer camp.

Demonstrates an awareness and understanding of community and responds to identified needs.
The ability to participate in physical activity and work in an outdoor environment in various weather conditions.

Qualifications:
Individuals must:
Preferred - Post secondary in Human Services (ECE, DSW, CYW, Recreation/Leisure Studies, etc.); Grade 12 secondary school students may apply with relevant experience
Be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.

Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. International students are not eligible participants.
Hold a valid driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle is required
Satisfactory criminal background check and vulnerable sector screen (CPIC)
Current Certification in Standard First Aid & CPR Level C
Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is a job requirement

Period of Employment:9 weeks starting June 23rd, 2025
Full time days, Monday to Friday
Hours of Work: 30 - 40 hours per week
Wages: $18.25/hr
