THUNDER BAY — Those most at risk of getting COVID-19 or influenza are urged to get vaccinated. Updated vaccines are now available for residents of the city and district.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced details of the rollout plan in a news release Monday.
Priority is being given to individuals at a higher risk of severe illness, including:
- children under 5 years of age
- adults 65 and over
- those with underlying medical conditions
- pregnant people
- those in or from First Nation, Inuit or Métis communities
People working in settings where higher-risk individuals receive care, and first responders, are also part of the first priority group.
All other members of the public will become eligible on Oct. 28.
Vaccinations against COVID-19 and the flu may be obtained at the same time, and are available at participating pharmacies or health care providers.
TBDHU will also offer a series of COVID-19 and flu shot clinics at the CLE coliseum in the coming weeks for high-priority people.
Members of the public may check for clinic dates online and book online through the provincial booking system or by calling 1-833-943-3900.
In other communities in the district, appointment-based clinics for the COVID-19 and flu vaccines will be offered starting at the end of October.
The health unit said publicly-funded protection against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) will also be available this fall, including to high-risk older adults, infants born in 2024, and high-risk children under the age of 2 years meeting specific criteria.
