KENORA — Elections Canada is ready for this weekend’s advance voting in the Kenora-Kiiwetinoong riding but still short on workers for the big day, officials say.

“All the staff for advance polls (in Kenora-Kiiwetinoong) are trained and ready to go for the weekend, but they still need people for election day as such,” said Richard Theoret, regional media adviser for Elections Canada.

Advance polls are open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on April 18-21 at locations in the municipalities of Dryden, Ignace, Kenora, Ear Falls, Red Lake and Sioux Lookout.

Advance polls are also set to operate during the long weekend at locations in at least seven First Nations in the riding: Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug, Wapekeka, Kingfisher Lake, Keewaywin, Sandy Lake, Deer Lake and Cat Lake. Hours of operation can be found through the Elections Canada website.

You can find the address of your local advance poll at the elections.ca Voter Information Service page.

Electors can also apply for a special ballot, but the deadline to do so is coming up quickly: next Tuesday, April 22. Information on special ballots is available through Elections Canada.

Election-day workers are paid a wage starting at about $21 an hour for three or four hours of training and hours worked at a polling location. Overtime pay applies to time in excess of eight hours on election day.

Polls will be open for voting from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. CT in Kenora-Kiiwetinoong on election day, April 28.

More information on election work in the riding can be obtained at the Elections Canada website (where you can apply online), by phoning 866-241-7853, or at the returning office in Kenora or sub-offices in Dryden, Sioux Lookout and Red Lake.

The Kenora-Kiiwetinoong returning office is at 509 Fourth Street N in Kenora.
