THUNDER BAY — Patrons at Boston Pizza had guest waiters bringing them food and drinks on Wednesday.
Local firefighters teamed up with the restaurant’s locations on Memorial Avenue and Arthur Street West for the lunch and dinner service to raise money for the Toys for Tots campaign.
“I love doing this every year and I always try to my volunteer my time for this day,” firefighter Rob Wilson said.
“It’s nice to give back to our community this way and it’s a really great way to help out the kids.”
This marks the 14th year that Boston Pizza and Thunder Bay firefighters have joined forces for the campaign.
Boston Pizza donates 10 per cent of sales from the event and matches donations up to a total of $5,000.
“We’ve always had fantastic feedback since we started doing this,” Boston Pizza Thunder Bay community relations coordinator Sharon Mercier said. “It’s the holiday season and it’s always fun to have something different take place, especially when you have the firefighters involved.
“Our guests enjoy that and they’ve been generous with their donations each year. We wouldn’t be able to raise as much money as we do without their help.”
Toys for Tots is a local charity coordinated by the Thunder Bay Professional Firefighters Association and provides toys for children who are in need each Christmas.
“It’s something we all enjoy doing every year,” Wilson said.
“I love being involved in the community … that’s why I chose this job.”
Firefighters will be at both locations this evening from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
