EDITORIAL: Plenty to do in town

What a wonderful weekend to stick around Thunder Bay. First and foremost is the ninth annual Thunder Bay Blues Festival, featuring the likes of Blues Traveler, Taj Mahal and Robert Randolph in the headlining spots.

First and foremost is the ninth annual Thunder Bay Blues Festival, featuring the likes of Blues Traveler, Taj Mahal and Robert Randolph in the headlining spots.

The event, held as always at Marina Park, has become a staple on the city’s summer events calendar, a must-see for music fans of all ages.

If that’s not enough music for you, head on out to Fort William Historical Park for the start of their Great Canadian Rendezvous. The entertainment gets under way Friday night with Rodney Brown’s Songs of the Big Lonely.

On Saturday and Sunday it’s the Anishnawbe Keeshigun powwow, with music on tap all week with actis ranging from the Stampeders, David Wilcox and Trooper, to name just a few.

And of course, for the sports fan, what better way to celebrate than a Stanley Cup visit.
Thunder Bay’s own Patrick Sharp gets his day with the Cup on Saturday, and will pose for pictures with fans for a couple of hours, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fort William Gardens.
He’s also promised a couple of surprise visits along the way.

Judging by the lines that greeted Jordan Staal last year, it’s a good bet you’ll want to get there early to guarantee your spot in line.

Enjoy the weekend!
