To the editor:
While on a recent visit to my daughter’s home in Maple Ridge, B.C. I saw an article in the Maple Ridge paper pertaining to property taxes.
These tax figures were so much lower than ours in Thunder Bay it made me think a lot of cities similar in size are much better financially run than ours.
Maple Ridge has a population of approximately 80,000, not much smaller than Thunder Bay.
My daughter’s home has an area of 2,680 square feet and is valued at $480,000 with yearly taxes at $2,675.
I have an 1,160 square foot condo unit valued at $140,000 in Thunder Bay with yearly taxes of $2,760.
It just makes me wonder.
