THUNDER BAY – The Terry Fox Run Was Back in person Sunday after two years of being held virtually, and Thunder Bay residents were once again able to join the hundreds of thousands of Canadians who walked and ran this weekend for cancer research.
Thunder Bay has been experiencing some heavy rain over the past few days, but the clouds held off for the 42nd annual Terry Fox Run which was a happy occurrence for the crowd of residents who met up at the St. Ignatius Catholic High School parking lot before making their way around Boulevard Lake.
"It's a 5K route, around Boulevard. So, we do have runners that will run it and then you have lots of walkers, families with bikes walking dogs, things like that,” said Don Morrison chair, Terry Fox Run Thunder Bay.
“So, it's a non-competitive event, just go out, enjoy yourself, enjoy the day, and think about Terry."
Terry Fox pushed himself to the limit for 143 days to raise money and awareness for cancer, and to date the Terry Fox Foundation has raised over 800 million dollars.
Allan Kozlo, president of the Lakehead Rotary club says Fox's story doesn't just inspire Canadians, it's also inspired people worldwide.
"There's run and walks across the country and really around the world,” he said.
“I remember talking to people in the past who had participated in runs in the Middle East, in Australia, and throughout the States... so it's amazing how far-reaching Terry's movement really has been and people participating around the globe."
