THUNDER BAY – The head of the union representing workers at the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre has confirmed 43 inmates have tested positive at the facility.
“As of right now, it’s all inmates,” said Shawn Bradshaw, president of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union Local 708.
Bradshaw said it’s deeply concerning.
“Obviously there’s an air of fear and uncertainty. But for the most parts, the inmates’ spirits are good. We’re taking all necessary precautions that we can as the situation evolves.
Mass testing of correctional officers begins on Friday, if not sooner.
“The original time was set before we got the inmates’ results back. As far as I know, all the inmates were tested, all 67.”
