50/50 winner walks away with $1.74M in March draw

Another millionaire made by the hospital foundation's 50/50 draw.

THUNDER BAY — It's the biggest draw outside of Christmas, and a man from Blind River has just won $1,740,910.

The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation drew the ticket on Friday morning and promptly called Jon Cada of Blind River to tell him his long weekend plans might be changing.

"No way, really!" he said along with some surprised expletives peppered in there. Cada was a little shocked that he won the March draw.

“It’s a Great Friday, not just a Good Friday,” said Cada.

Cada was asked how he found out about the lottery, “Friends and family have been in and out of hospitals over the years, so your 50/50 was an easy one to support.”

April's draw is now available and features multiple chances at the $45,000 in early bird prizes within the first week.

Cash from the April lottery will help to purchase new equipment for the hospital's cancer care centre.
