THUNDER BAY — Several agencies are partnering for an outdoor drug amnesty event in Thunder Bay on Tuesday.

It takes place at NorWest Community Health Centres at 525 Simpson Street from 10 am to 3pm.

NorWest is hosting the event in partnership with Syndicate Pharmacy, Superior Points, the Thunder Bay Drug Strategy, Thunder Bay Addiction Centres, and the Thunder Bay Police Service.

A drug amnesty gives community members the chance to have expired and unused medications disposed of properly and safely.

These medications may otherwise pose a risk to people and their families.

Drugs accepted during the five-hour session include:

  • over-the-counter drugs
  • prescription medications
  • cough syrups and cold/flu medications
  • illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia
  • vitamins and mineral supplements

In a similar event last year at NorWest Community Health Centres, over 250 litres of drugs were collected.

More information may be obtained by contacting Michelle Kolobutin at NorWest at 626-7854 or at [email protected].
