THUNDER BAY — Monday was the warmest-ever Sept. 16 in Thunder Bay.
"We're trying to hold on to summer," said meteorologist Gerald Cheng.
Data released by Environment Canada shows the temperature at the airport rose to 29 C, a full two degrees higher than the previous record.
The old mark was established in 1948.
Cheng said a new record was also set Monday at Upsala, where the temperature of 29 C broke the record of 28 C set in 1893.
The normal high at Thunder Bay for this time of year is only 17 C.
Temperatures are predicted to peak well above that for the next few days.
