THUNDER BAY — A gastrointestinal outbreak that was declared Thursday in one part of a Thunder Bay long-term care home has now spread through the entire facility.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced Monday that restrictions are now in effect for all sections of the Southbridge Roseview nursing home on Shuniah Street.
Admissions, transfers, discharges and social activites are cancelled until further notice.
Visitation is restricted to family members and caregivers only.
A spokesperson for Southbridge said when the infection became apparent, Roseview staff worked with the company's local infection prevention and control specialist and the TBDHU to immediately implement increased infection control practices.
These include more frequent hand hygiene, enhanced deep cleaning in each home area, and the cohorting of staff.
She said the clinical team is also monitoring resident hydration levels to ensure all residents have the necessary fluids.
As of late Monday, five residents and two staff cases had resolved, leaving 18 resident and seven staff cases active.
