A splash-ing success for this year's Slush Cup

This year's Slush Cup had an 80s costume theme, with many participants dressing up in bright colours and wacky costumes.

LOCH LOMOND — A warm, sunny spring day made it the perfect time to host the annual Slush Cup at Loch Lomond Ski Area.

The annual event gives riders a chance to speed down one of the ski hills into a waiting puddle of snowmelt.

Jason Gerry is the president of Loch Lomond and called the event, which was held on Sunday, a super success.

"We had at least 100 competitors out having a great time. The sun's been out all day and it's nice and warm. It's a great way to finish the year."

He noted it's the silliness of the event that's likely a draw to bring people to come and play.

"You have a big pond full of water and you know, the opportunity to just go flying down the hill and splash into it or go through the end, and try to pull a trick off.

"I think it's fun for everybody at the end of the season to have something that's just like a silly day where you can come out and wear costumes and have a great time with your friends and family and everyone else out at the ski area."

Even with the recent snowfall, Gerry said it helped for participant turnout.

"We were slated to close, actually, three weeks ago at this point, but then we got that unexpected snowfall.

"That turned into probably the best two weekends we've had this year, not just from like ridership standpoint, but also just from the conditions because all that extra snow that came down, it was really fun," Gerry said.
