THUNDER BAY -- A local woman is no longer facing charges in connection with a homicide at a north side apartment from September 2022.

Qualynn Janelle Loon, 28, of Thunder Bay was originally charged with accessory after the fact to murder as part of the investigation into the death of 28-year-old Shawn Mark Newsome of Ajax, Ont.

First responders were called to Andras Court on Cumberland Street South in the early morning hours of Sept. 24, 2022 for reports of an injured male.

According to the Thunder Bay Police Service, the male, later identified as Newsome, had injuries consistent with a serious assault.

Newsome was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre but succumbed to his injuries.

Isaac Talbot-Hall, 28, of Toronto was arrested by the Thunder Bay Police Service on November 8, 2022 and charged with second-degree murder.

Loon was also arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to murder and failing to comply with a release order.

At the request of the Crown, the charges against Loon have been withdrawn.

A preliminary hearing for Talbot-Hall on the charge of second-degree murder is expected to begin next month, though the Crown is still working to confirm a witness.

The preliminary hearing will determine if there is enough evidence to proceed to trial on the charges. It is scheduled for nine days.
