THUNDER BAY — A routine Sunday afternoon patrol for Thunder Bay police officers quickly changed to a potentially dangerous situation for members of the public.
Officers cruising in the vicinity of the Kam River Heritage Park observed a pickup truck that had been reported stolen.
When they began to approach the vehicle, the driver took off at high speed, prompting police to disengage out of concern for public safety.
But the vehicle subsequently crashed into two parked vehicles on a nearby street.
This time, officers were able to get to the pickup truck where they located an adult female suspected to be the driver.
While being interviewed, she provided an identity that turned out to be false.
A 31-year-old woman was charged with dangerous driving, obstructing police, possession of stolen property and breach of a release order.
The charges have not been tested in court.
The accused appeared in court Monday and was remanded into custody with a future court date.
It is Newswatch policy not to name people facing criminal accusations when we are unlikely to follow the case to its conclusion in the courts.
