LITTLE CURRENT, Ont. – Brian Adams Jr. and Trevor Bonot remain undefeated at the Northern Ontario Men’s Curling Championship.

Adams, the lone Thunder Bay rink not to get under way in the opening draw on Wednesday morning, took down Brendan Rajala in the afternoon draw, putting the 7-4 triumph away with three in the eighth, breaking open a 4-3 match.

Sudbury’s Rajala, whose team includes Thunder Bay’s Jackson Dubinsky and Adam Wiersema, dropped his second game of the day in the triple-knockout format, and dropped into the C-side bracket.

Adams Jr., lead Joel Adams, second Mark Koivula and third Colin Koivula, followed with an 8-1 drubbing of Little Current, Ont.’s Jordan Chandler and moved on to the A-side semifinal against defending champion Tanner Horgan, who doubled up North Bay’s Brad Minogue 8-4 in Wednesday’s evening draw.

Bonot, who opened with a 10-3 win over North Bay’s Malcolm O’Bright, needed just eight ends to put away Sault Ste. Marie’s Matthew Hunt, stealing singles in the sixth and seventh and four more in the eighth en route to an 11-3 victory.

The Thunder Bay skip and his team, which includes lead Kurtis Byrd, second Jordan Potts and third Mike McCarville, will take on Mike Assad in the other A-side semifinal on Thursday afternoon.

Thunder Bay’s Chris Silver will take on Sandy MacEwan in a B-side match on Thursday morning , while Bryan Burgess will play Minogue.

The fifth Thunder Bay team, skipped by Zach Warkentin, doubled up O’Bright 10-5, avoiding relegation to C-side, after losing 9-7 to Hunt in Wednesday’s morning draw, after opening up a 7-2 lead. Team Warkentin will take on Chandler on Thursday morning.

The women’s competition gets under way on Thursday night, with Krista McCarville taking on fellow Thunder Bay skip Robyn Despins.
