THUNDER BAY – Advanced polling stations across the district opened their doors on Friday, offering many people a chance to vote ahead of the election date for the 2021 federal election.
“We have 22 advance polls going on across the district, and the reports are that there’s a steady stream, but seldom a long lineup at any of them so far," said Dale Mason, returning officer for the Thunder Bay–Superior North riding. "As far as the pandemic, I don’t know if there are any more or less because of that – I think it’s very typical as of now."
Advance polls will be open from Sept. 10 through 13, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
“There’s a lot of spaces where there will be virtually no one else at the poll but the individual, so that’s helpful," said Mason.
Voters should check the voter registration cards they received in the mail for the location of their advance poll. Poll locations and other information can also be found online.
Voters are required to bring proof of identification as well as proof of address in order to be able to cast a ballot. Approved forms of identification can be found here.
Ballots may also be cast by mail using the special ballot process.
Elections Canada must receive completed applications for registration for mail-in voting by Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
Completed mail-in ballots must arrive at Elections Canada in Ottawa no later than 6 p.m., Eastern Time, on Sept. 20.
Voters must adhere to physical distancing requirements and follow all posted directions.
