An Aroland First Nation man who alleged he was assaulted by a Greenstone OPP officer took the stand Monday in a Thunder Bay courtroom.

Gary Megan, 43, says he suffered multiple fractures and a cracked cheekbone after he was arrested in February 2012.

Const. Brian Bellefeuille has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and public mischief. The Crown is alleging that Megan was hurt during an interaction in a holding cell at the OPP detachment in Geraldton.

Megan says he woke up the next morning with a swollen and sore eye, after he was arrested for intoxication.

Bellefeuille was charged in June following a four-month investigation by the province's Special Investigations Unit.

Megan will be cross-examined tomorrow by the defense.
