Allegedly driving impaired, running a red light and crashing into a minivan Saturday helped police locate nearly 250 grams of marijuana.
Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say a man driving an Oldsmobile collided with a minivan at the corner of Fort William Road and Main Street Saturday. The female driver and passenger of the minivan along with the driver of the Oldsmobile sustained non-life threatening injuries as a result of the crash.
The 21 year old man driving the Oldsmobile was charged with failing to provide a breath sample, impaired operation causing bodily harm and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The man is said to have had 245 grams of marijuana in his possession at the time of the collision.
He has also been charged with failing to stop for a red light. The suspect was released on a promise to appear in court on Oct. 11.
That was the first of two crashes city police responded to involving alleged impaired drivers. The second incident reported occurred on Sunday, just after 2 a.m., officers spotted a pickup truck that appeared to have crashed into a hydro pole on Boundary Drive at Oliver Creek Road in Oliver Paipoonge.
Two men, ages 18 and 20 years old, were outside of the truck.
A 20-year-old man from Thunder Bay was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He is expected to appear in court on Oct. 18.
