THUNDER BAY - The investigation into a recent school threat incident has gone international.

The Thunder Bay Police Service said they have identified an American youth as the suspect in a threat incident targeting a local high school this week.

Police originally responded to St. Patrick High School on the morning of Feb. 20 after a threat was received that targeted the school. Police said the school was evacuated and their search did not result in any evidence to substantiate the threat.

Further investigation into the threat led to the identification of a person of interest living in New Jersey. And police said that, with assistance from state law enforcement, a Thunder Bay police officer was able to speak to the individual and their family.

The individual admitted to police that they did make the threat but did not have any intention to act on it.

Police said they are committed to working with school boards and educational authorities to ensure schools remain safe learning environments.
