RED LAKE, ON — A British Columbia man has paid a steep price for catching more fish than he was legally permitted to during a trip to northwestern Ontario.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry reports that the incident occurred last May near a fishing lodge north of Red Lake.
Conservation officers contacted the Vancouver man while he was travelling from the lodge in a boat on the Nungesser River.
Upon inspecting the vessel, the officers found three large bags of walleye fillets, and determined that the angler was in possession of a total of 19 walleye, 15 more than his sport fishing licence allowed.
A Justice of the Peace imposed a fine of $3,250 after the man pleaded guilty to possessing an over-limit,
