This three day event is held every year to celebrate the Ojibwe culture and traditions of the Fort William First Nation people. The leading theme for this year's festivities is Honouring our Women.
"It is a great way to start our annual powwow by honouring our women,” said Fort William First Nation chief Peter Collins. “Because our Women are a gift of life.
“It is about recognizing the things that they do to keep our spirits, our culture, and our language alive, as well as keeping our community healthy.”
Collins added that the annual powwow is about tradition. It is a time for First Nations people to recognize their culture, language, neighbours and their Treaty Brothers.
The closing ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday.
