THUNDER BAY — For the second time in less than a year, a correctional officer at the Thunder Bay District Jail has been arrested after a police investigation into suspected drug trafficking activity.
Thunder Bay Police stopped a pickup truck in the 1000 block of John Street Road on Tuesday afternoon and apprehended the driver, who was in possession of suspected cocaine.
Robert Wray Gordon, 42, was taken to police headquarters for processing.
Members of the TBPS Intelligence Unit then executed a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of Mercedes Drive.
They discovered a quantity of magic mushrooms and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.
Gordon is charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of magic mushrooms, and breach of trust by a public officer.
He was released from custody for a future appearance in court.
Gordon is the second staff member at the district jail to be charged with drug trafficking.
In June 2020, 38-year-old correctional officer Andy Jason Saindon was charged after police searched his workplace locker, his home and his vehicle, resulting in the seizure of drugs, drug trafficking paraphernalia and about $20,000 in cash.
At the time, police said the locker search uncovered items packaged in a way that was consistent with making them concealable during body searches.
