More people were out of work in July in the Thunder Bay area than in June.
Newly released data from Statistics Canada shows the jobless rate for July was at 6.1 per cent, up from the 5.7 per cent recorded in the previous month.
The nation’s average jobless rate for July was 7.3 per cent, which is up slightly from the 7.2 per cent recorded in June.
Despite the shedding of local jobs, this region still has the second lowest jobless rate in the province. Only Guelph has a lower rate, which was 4.5 per cent in July.
