Police are on the lookout for a pair of teenagers in connection with a late night Georgina Bay fire on Thursday that firefighters have ruled as arson.

Shortly before midnight the teens, described as Aboriginal with medium length hair, were pulled from the fire when the unit's caretaker responded to a smoke detector going off. As he tried to call 911 they fled the area and were last seen heading east on Mary Street.

Firefighters on scene reported heavy smoke and flames from unit 902 and the fire soon broke through the roof.

A total of 22 firefighters responded to the call, bringing five pumpers and an aerial ladder. They were hampered by cold weather and slippery conditions. Unit 902, which was vacant at the time of the fire, suffered extensive fire damage, as with nearby units suffering smoke and water damage, displacing several residents.

One of the girls was wearing a white hoodie jacket and the other a blue/black hoodie jacket. Both may have suffered from smoke inhalation in the blaze.

Anyone with information on the girls are asked to contact Thunder Bay Police at 684-1200.
