Assault investigation results in drug trafficking charges

A Thunder Bay resident faces multiple charges for drug trafficking, assault and weapons-related offences.

THUNDER BAY — A city man faces numerous drug-related and other charges following an incident on the south side Sunday evening.

According to the Thunder Bay Police Service, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Cumming Street shortly after 6:30 pm to investigate an assault that reportedly had just occurred.

At the scene, they were told that a man who had been asked to leave the residence had caused some damage to property.

Officers located him nearby and apprehended him after a brief foot pursuit that ended in the area of Leith and May streets.

While the subject was in custody, police learned he was in possession of weapons, a quantity of suspected cocaine, fentanyl, other narcotics, cash and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.

The 33-year-old was taken to police headquarters where he was charged with:

  • possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • possession of fentanyl for trafficking
  • possession of hydromorphone for trafficking
  • possession of gabapentin for trafficking
  • possession of biphentin for trafficking
  • two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • obstructing a peace officer
  • resisting a peace officer
  • mischief
  • assault

The accused appeared in bail court Monday and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
