Assault with an axe sends one person to the hospital

A 45-year-old man was taken to the hospital after being hit with an axe during an altercation on the evening of Dec. 1.

THUNDER BAY — Emergency services were called to an address on the city's north side for an assault with a weapon last week. 

City police responded to a call for service to an address on North Cumberland St on Dec. 1 around 6 p.m. 

A 45-year-old man was taken to the hospital after being hit with an axe during an altercation. 

Police were able to locate the suspect in an apartment in the 100 block of Cumberland Street and was arrested. 

The suspect, a 31-year-old man from Thunder Bay, has been charged with aggravated assault and remains in custody after appearing in court on Monday.
