TERRACE BAY, Ont. — Hospital workers and two area community programs will benefit from a cash infusion from the owner of the Terrace Bay pulp mill.
Aditya Birla Group's AV Terrace Bay Inc. has announced a donation of $50,000 for local COVID-19 preparedness.
The money will be divided among McCausland Hospital – for the purchase of personal protective equipment for frontline workers – the Meals on Wheels program, and the North Shore Harvest Cupboard.
AV Terrace Bay's manager of human resources, Darren Guzzell, said the donation will benefit residents of Terrace Bay, Schreiber, Rossport, Pays Plat and Jackfish.
"These are our neighbours, friends and colleagues. We are all in this together and we are honoured to assist in any way possible," Guzzell said.
The mill employs more than 400 people in the production of northern bleached softwood kraft grade pulp.
Guzzell noted that the company's products are used to make many essential items including medical supplies such as masks, disinfectant and sanitary wipes, hygiene products, and disinfectant and sanitary wipes through its partner downstream manufacturers.
