THUNDER BAY — Northwestern Ontario Oji-Cree singer-songwriter Aysanabee has nabbed three nominations in the 2024 Juno Awards competition.

He's nominated for contemporary Indigenous artist of the year, songwriter of the year, and alternative album of the year for his album Here and Now.

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the not-for-profit organization that oversees the awards, announced the nominations Tuesday.

The awards will be presented March 24 in Halifax.

Aysanabee is a member of Sandy Lake First Nation, but grew up in the Kaministiquia area.

The rising star was nominated for a Juno for the first time last year – for contemporary Indigenous artist of the year – and performed on the stage at the awards ceremony in Edmonton.

In 2022 he performed at the Wake the Giant music festival in Thunder Bay.

Last year he won three awards in the Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Awards competition.
