A ballot error in Shuniah is disrupting the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board trustees election race.
Both Thunder Bay and Shuniah declared emergencies under the province’s Municipal Elections Act.
The ballots available in Shuniah omitted one of the 11 certified candidates in the race. The error does not affect the ballots in Thunder Bay and other surrounding municipalities.
The Catholic board trustee count in Shuniah has been suspended.
Thunder Bay City Clerk Krista Power has instructed all other municipal clerks involved in the Catholic board trustee contest to seal and secure all ballots, with no results to be made available until the Shuniah vote is resumed.
More information about how the situation will be resolved will be made available in the coming days.
Ballot issues also interfered with a school board trustee race in Dryden. In that case, the English public board trustee race was suspended. That was due to some voters receiving ballots from both the city and the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board.
