Bear cozies up to Miller Hill Mall entrance

Mall manager says bears have visited in the past, usually attracted by the smell of food at local restaurants.

DULUTH , Minn. – A popular shopping destination for Northwestern Ontario residents appears to have gone to the bears.

According to BringMeTheNews.com, Miller Hill Mall security officer Ryan Carlson was patrolling the Duluth shopping centre early Wednesday morning when he spotted a bear hanging around a mall entrance.

Mall manager Katie Altrichter Kaz said it’s not unprecedented.

“Just passing through,” she posted on her Facebook page, when asked if the animal was OK. “Bears come through once in a while when they smell something good from the restaurants.”

Of course the jokes started flying at that point.

One poster suggested maybe the bear was going “shopping for simple bear necessities of life.” Another suggested it was hoping “to be first in line for a haircut when this opens back up.”

And Becky Munro had the best line of all: “He’s waiting for his curbside pickup from Build a Bear.”
