THUNDER BAY -- A pair of best friends have won the latest Thunder Bay 50/50 Jackpot.

Don Zimak and David Traynor got the call on Friday morning from Glenn Craig, informing them they'd won the top prize of $657,208, the seventh-highest grand prize since the lottery began more than a year ago.

Craig, president and CEO of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, informed Zimak of the big win.

At first the lucky winner thought it was a joke, but quickly realized the call was the real deal.

"I always see you on the news, giving people the phone call, and I think... I wonder what it would be like to be on the other end of that," Zimak said.

Zimak retired in January and his wife's final day of work was Friday.

The hospital foundation's collective jackpot total, over 14 draw, has now topped $10 million. The March draw is already opening, featuring a March 4 early bird draw of $5,000, a $2,000 early bird on March 11 and $5,000, plus five $2,000 early bird draws on March 18.

The grand prize will be drawn for on March 2022.
